(The "After all I lectured you about, you still dare to ask me whether you're in the team?!" look.)
(Perhaps a little exaggerated...)
Something That Took Place in School
School. An institution of education and learning. In other words, it's a place where we just study, study, and study. Although the definition of school is as such, is studying the only thing we do? If you think that school is extremely boring and that it is a burden, think again. I really look forward to school every day, because I believe that it is a place where studying isn't the only priority.
Over the past few weeks, there have been numerous cricket trainings. Three times a week, three hours a day. For those of you who think that cricket CCA is 'slack', here's proof for you that it really is not. As exhausting as the trainings were, they were enjoyable. The seniors have gotten to know a lot more about the juniors, and we are starting to get closer as a team. As the captain, it really is heart-warming to see the juniors put their best efforts into their cricket. We feel much more confident in ourselves and the will to succeed is much stronger. All was well until yesterday, when something really unfortunate took place.
During the first few days of cricket, I monitored over the juniors. I did this so that I would be able to distinguish the really talented boys from the others. One of the juniors caught the eyes of the coach and me when we first saw him bat. His strokes with the cricket bat were natural and extremely well-timed. So, I went up to him one day during recess and asked him whether he would like to open the innings with me (In other words, I asked him whether he would like to bat before the others in our team) in the upcoming tournament. He gladly accepted my request.
Just yesterday, I heard complaints about John( this is not his real name). The other juniors claimed that John acted very proud and behaved as if he were in charge of choosing the team for the tournament. He unintentionally (I think) dampened the spirits of the other juniors by telling them whether they were in the team or not. In fact, I detected a hint of the arrogance within him when he said "Hey Nachiket. Don't you think I should be the only Secondary one batting?" while we were training.
After hearing of his actions, I called for a 'team meeting' during our training session and 'declared the team that was to play in the tournament'(the only person who would be able to actually decide the team was our coach). I didn't include John. Thinking that he would understand his mistakes he committed, I didn't say anything to him after that. Instead of reflecting on his mistakes, he began to weep. I quickly took him aside and consoled him.At this point, I myself felt dejected. I might have been too harsh. I tried to make him understand that I did this on purpose so that he learns a lesson.
Fortunately, he was mature enough to apologise to me and the whole team.(What a nice guy) After all that happened, he came up to me after training and asked me "Nachiket, am I in the team?" Sigh. These Secondary ones will never change...
Yay...Tomorrow is a half-day too...sort of...
Well,that's it for now...Cya :)
It Ends Here .
