This was most probably my expression when I first encountered my juniors, and along with them, my difficulty
And this was my expression after my debacle ended :)

A Difficulty That I Faced

Difficulties. What are they? Why should I even bother. That is a rather silly question to ask. Yet, we encounter difficulties on every path of life. Ever dreamed of just lying in your bed, listening to music while playing on a game console, completely free of worries and tensions. If you have, I have one thing to say to you. Get back to reality! The difficulty I faced was concealed within a dark layer of happiness. As weird as it may sound, it is true.

Towards the end of last year, I was told by my cricket seniors that I was most probably going to be declared captain for the 'C Division' team. I was jubilated when I heard this. All that I could think of were the all-so-worthy privileges of being the captain. The 'CCA' points, the authority to boss others around, and the chances of me rising up the ranks of the Singapore national cricket team. Although I knew that I did not have many leadership qualities, I was confident that being the captain would be easy. This year, the title of 'captain' seems far more challenging to me.

I recognised most of the Secondary ones who joined cricket this year as they had attended the 'DSA Trials'( Direct School Admission). I did not know them too well, except for some who were my friends. I never really had an impression of them till the first time we trained this year. It was on that fateful day that their true personalities were revealed. Trust me, it was total hell. Immature, arrogant, annoying. What worse juniors could us seniors ask for?

After seeing their outrageous demeanor, I decided to take my first step. I still remember what the first few words I said to them" Guys, shut up!" That really left a bad impression of me on them. I tried to keep a strict control over them, but it did not seem to work. So, I was left with no choice but to complain to my seniors. It got worse, and then, they began to detest us seniors. At one point of time, I was about to give up my captaincy. It was then that I truly realised how much pain we had put our seniors through. In fact, coming to think of it, we were just like our juniors when we were in Secondary one! As I began to recall my Secondary one days, I discovered my solution to the problem.

Just last week, I had a talk with them. I tried my best to make them understand.Unfortuantely, it seemed like everything I said went into one ear, and out the other. I began to think that I was a horrible person, and more importantly, an irresponsible captain. I blamed it all on myself and the other Secondary twos. Just the next training, things settled down and the juniors began to really focus on their training. I couldn't believe it. My 'plan' actually worked! They behaved maturely, and listened attentively to the instructions that they were given. After training that day, we sat in the canteen and put all our differences aside. The rift between the two sides were over.

Initially, I thought that it was absolutely impossible to win the upcoming tournament, and that we would not be able to bring glory to Victoria School. Now, although we are not as strong as schools like RI, I believe that with our will to strive for success and with our hardwork we will be able to achieve our goals. After all, 'Nil Sine Labore'.

(The song 'Generation' reflects much on how the juniors must have been feeling about me and how I felt about them)

It Ends Here .
